Getting There

At eight o’clock-ish on Thursday the 18th, our team met at the Midland airport. Karen and Everett brought the trailer from the church that carried all of our supply bags. We sipped our coffee and rubbed the sleep from our eyes as we got ready for the adventure God has in store for us in Uganda. We were especially thankful for the family and friends that came to see us off at the airport.

With heavy hearts, we had to leave a team member in Midland. Missy is having some medical issues with her big toe and was not able to come with us. We are hoping and praying she will be well enough to join us in a couple days. It may sound a bit silly for us to be sending out a prayer request for a toe. But, really, we are sending out a prayer request for Missy’s heart and well-being, and for our patience as the plan of the Lord is revealed.

We flew from Midland to Dallas and then waited at DFW for six hours. Whoever can figure out how to live purposefully during a layover is a very happy and healthy human being. It is tough to fully appreciate and live life when you are in transit. But this might be the most important time to live life well. It might be where the most life is lived.

With lots of eating, some game-playing, napping, reading, and checking in with loved ones one last time, we made it onto the plane and headed for Europe. A couple team members even got a massage!

We met up with Karen Winkler in London and after Allison, Rachel, and Cynthia struggled through a long wait in security, we all made it to the gate and boarded for Entebbe, Uganda (still lamenting Missy’s absence, of course).

It has been a long couple of days but we have landed in Uganda! All of our luggage made it. That’s right, ALL of it. We spent the night in Entebbe last night. It was a pretty restful night, around the mother of all thunderstorms. Waking up this morning, we had breakfast and a devotional.

We are excited to head to Jinja for lunch at Ling-Ling's! And then, we are heading to Mbale and the Mount Elgon hotel. We look forward to sharing our stories from Akalabai with you this week! Thanks for your support.
