Prison Ministry

This afternoon Michelle, Casey and Dr. Bartha took a trip to visit Kumi Prison. Under the direction of Senior Warden Sam Afdule the facility holds around 150 people, 20 of them women.  Casey and Michelle both gave their testimonies and Dr. Bartha delivered a great sermon over Luke 4:14-21 where Jesus declares that He has fulfilled the Isaiah prophecy.

All three messages were well recieved by the very attentive and enthusiastic inmates.
Kumi Prison is blessed to have Warden Sam as its leader.  About two years ago, when he took over as leader, the prison was a grim place allowing no outside interactions.  As a Christian, Warden Sam believes he cannot watch over his “flock” without the help of the Lord.  He began to invite churches and mission groups into the prison to teach about Jesus and encourage the inmates that God loves them and has a plan for their life no matter their past actions.

Today, the team witnessed a strong Christian presence among the prisoners, who have even created a praise and worship team with hand-made instruments.  Many men that have been released from the prison system now have jobs in ministry and some often return to the prison to minister to the current inmates.

God is very clearly at work in Kumi Prison and it was a blessing and an encouragement for the team members to experience.
